Describe yourself and your designs to us?

As a designer I place emphasis on quality execution with strong, uncluttered aesthetic that merges form and function. My approach is bold, experimental and conceptual, merging past and current trends to create designs with a timeless essence. My self-titled label is an expression of sophisticated and relaxed luxury for contemporary women, translating the art of movement into simple, timeless garments that are easy to wear. The label embodies European urban elegance combined with a sophisticated coastal feel, taking you effortlessly from city to beach.

How did it all begin for your brand?

I have been collaborating with different artists, movers, makers, artisans and visionaries in a fusion of diverse art forms for the last 20 years. I studied fashion and scenography (set and costume design) in Czech Republic and creative industries in Australia. I’ve worked on projects and productions including ballet, contemporary dance, new music, opera, play and film. In 2011, I established the label as a natural result of my creative ventures.

What is a stand out moment in shaping your brand?

Shaping my brand hasn’t come out of one stand out moment so much as a continuous journey of breakthrough opportunities and many moments of surrender and triumph since I first established the brand in 2011. My favourite moment would have to be when “Miss Czech Republic” was photographed wearing my jewellery, and the campaign images were used on trams all over the city of Prague.

What designs or creative work has you excited right now?

Right now I’m most excited about my sustainable jewellery range, created from lightweight degradable materials. The 3D / OVA magnetic set is not a traditional piece of jewellery; rather it’s bold and conceptual, designed to make a statement and offering sizes in both small to large to suit your taste.

The inspiration behind the jewellery pieces is the intimate connection between technology, body and nature’s intricacies. Mimics elements of the natural world, the 3D / OVA set in particular was inspired by deer antlers, taking various elements and crafting unique stand alone pieces. These pieces can also be assembled together to “grow” into bigger and bolder creations. The material is surprisingly light, so also easy to wear. I am also very excited about an ongoing collaboration with the amazing photographer/videographer duo Elsa and Richard Dillon. They are able to capture and elevate my creations in the light and mesmerising horizon of Byron Bay.

What excites you about the year ahead?

There are a lot of things I’m excited about and would like to achieve this year. In addition to my sustainable jewellery collection, I’m also focussed on turning my “Madagascar Dreams” collection into a self-sustaining social enterprise, empowering local women and families, some of whom I have personally met and worked with in Madagascar when I first visited in 2017.

This year I’m also really excited about upcoming collaborations I have planned with other local Brisbane artists and am very focused on expanding my community presence.

What do you love to do most to relax?

I love baking, yoga and whiskey. They are my favourite procrastinating breaks!

What advice do you have for emerging designers?

Focus on building long-term relationships and embracing what makes you unique. For me, coming back to the core of who I am has proven to be the best way to find my direction.
