TELL US ABOUT MARGOT MOLYNEUX AND HOW IT ALL BEGAN?
Margot Molyneux launched almost eight years ago and since then the brand had changed and grown considerably, alongside each of its’ contributing members. I completed a Diploma in Fashion Design from the Design Academy of Fashion and went straight into making up small run collections and selling them to local boutiques. The rest has been a tough but rewarding journey.
We are now a team of eight strong women and everyone plays a vital role in producing well-made, well-designed clothing for everyday life. It is incredible to be a part of a team of skilled ladies who never cease to have an interest in learning and growing with the company.
As Margot Molyneux continues to grow, we focus on every detail of our process - from the best fit, the most environmentally friendly fabrics to interactive in-store events with our customers.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU AND THE MARGOT MOLYNEUX BRAND?
The wonderful women that I work with, as well as the fact that I get to build a small business and contribute to our growing economy.
WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING, WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO DO?
I have just started pottery classes again. I also love walking our beautiful Cape Town mountains and spending time at home.
WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR PROUDEST MOMENTS SHAPING MARGOT MOLYNEUX?
Definitely opening our first (and only) store in Cape Town. We worked very hard and put everything we had into making it something beautiful, a place to welcome our existing customers and meet new ones.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
It’s an exciting year for us. We have launched our Spring collection, Bottega and earlier this year we released our full summer collection.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR EMERGING DESIGNERS & ARTISTS?
Start planning from an early stage, having guidelines and structure in a business is vital in making sure that you see another season. Other than that, enjoy every bit of being able to create and design whatever you like, it is truly a lucky position to be in!
