Tell us about your creative work and what inspires you?

I get a real thrill from creating imagery that makes people feel something. I am inspired by my muses who I choose to photograph again and again as I capture a new, evolving version of them. You need a drive in photography to push you outside of your boundaries and I'm lucky enough to constantly be driven by places I never thought I'd go and people I never thought I'd meet, as well as the wonderful people I work with. The potential is beyond your own reality and to share this with the world gives me real purpose.

I've always wanted to be a photographer and create visuals that influence others in the way I've been inspired by other artists. You can't be complacent in this job, you have to try new things and push industry and your own boundaries to stay current and ahead of the game.. While the hustle is real it's a very exciting career to be in.

How did your love of photography begin?

I stepped out of high school and didn’t put my camera down. Even with challenges along the way - I have severe scoliosis - I strived to make my vision for both my career and my work a reality. Today, I am still evolving my work and my vision. Every shoot sets new possibilities and allows me to reach further for what I want.

Tell us about the creative people you love to work with?

I work with so many incredibly talented people who help bring my vision to fruition or who completely warp my own vision to create something I never could have expected. Not only are these individuals allowing me to make magic, but they have also become lifelong friends.

What moment in your career do you still recall as ‘that moment’?

When I first saw my work lit up on a billboard in the Melbourne night sky. I always wanted to shoot for a magazine and then it happened. I always wanted to see my work in large print and then it happened. Each of these moments shows me what's truly possible and makes me excited for what's to come.

Where will we find you when you’re not working? Before isolation of course!

I continuously look for ways to recharge my creative energy by going to an art gallery, a live gig or enjoying good food and wine. I surround myself with people who share this energy.

Where do you see the industry heading and the changes we’re seeing now?

Everything has become immediate. A photo isn't what it was 10 years ago when I started, let alone 50 years ago. People see an image on social media and think it's well executed, even if it's on an iPhone. I think we are becoming a little slack in our visual language because we are bombarded by very poor imagery all the time.

That's what's changing; the immediate photos are created and that's exciting for individuals and brands. But what excites me is that it allows me to push even further to create images with ethos and adroitness that transcend a social media image.

Do you have advice for new creatives just starting in the industry?

Have confidence in what you do and what you share with the world. You can only be your best self and give everything you have. Be inspired by what's out there, create an idea, an image, a word and make it your own. Ensure that you’re always seeking out new opportunities. The only way to get better is to actually do it! Practice makes Perfect.
