TASHANA KEHOE OF Kehöe STUDIOS
MADE IN BYRON BAY, AUSTRALIA
Describe yourself and your designs to us?
I live a simple life in Byron Bay with my partner, two dogs and a baby on the way! My designs are structural yet feminine, with a nostalgic feel. I have a love for vintage clothing, so the pieces I have created for Kehöe are a reflection of my favourite vintage finds reworked into a modern silhouette.
WHAT DID YOUR FIRST COLLECTION REPRESENT TO THE INDUSTRY?
Kehöe Collection 01 was launched at the end of 2018. It was something that had been in the works for the last year or so, but a project that I did not want to rush. It really opened my eyes to how damaging the fashion industry can be environmentally when not practised with awareness. I was determined to leave a positive footprint with this project through creating small limited-run collections of high quality linens.
WHAT HAS BEEN A PIVOTAL MOMENT IN SHAPING Kehöe STUDIOS?
I would say that last year’s Collection 01 release - our first collection. The overwhelming amount of positive feedback we received for Kehöe was amazing. It was so rewarding to see people looking and feeling beautiful in our creations.
What designs are you working on right now?
My aim has been to create trans-seasonal pieces that can carry you throughout the year as we are extremely conscious of not wanting to create garments that get thrown to the side at the end of each season. We are working on new colour schemes and refining our most popular garments.
Luckily, my partner Nick is a videographer so we worked together on creating the video series (below), which has been super fun.
What advice do you have for emerging designers?
As I am only an emerging designer myself I would say to keep persisting, and as long as you are making things that you really love - that will show through to others.
