THE FIRST COLLECTION | SIKALINDI

The first Ferilli Eyewear Collection takes his name from Sikalindi (namely prickly pear in Griko dialect), the material that has been used to create the sunglasses.

The prickly pear is a fast-growing plant that vegetates and quickly reproduces itself in a spontaneous way, and therefore it is classified as infesting. Thinning out and pruning procedures are periodically essential to limit an overabundant growth. Thus, the fibre needed for the sunglass production is obtained by a patented and completely eco-friendly method of dehydration without the use of pollutants. The Sikalindi won the Oscar Green award in 2013.

The collection is composed by a hundred and twenty pieces divided in three models - San Gregorio, Otranto and Porto Miggiano. Each model tells a story that is expressed by the colours of the lenses.

The San Gregorio model, for example, speaks about breathtaking sunsets that can be admired from the homonymous bay located in Apulia. You can picture this image by watching through the blue and red gradient lenses. But for those people who prefer a much more sober design, don't worry - they are also available with dark lenses.

Their temples are entirely made by olive wood, creating a perfect bond between the two most representative materials of Salento (Apulia) for a 100 % made-in-Italy pair of sunglasses.
Each new collection will maintain a common threat: turning nature into sunglasses. Nature takes shape to create a unique and naturally beautiful product.

Cristiano Ferilli

Since I was 16 years old, I've been passionate about the world of sunglasses. While participating in international trade fairs, I had the chance to come into contact with many situations.

I remember that, wandering around different pavillons and exhibition spaces, I was fascinated and sometimes enchanted by the varieties of shapes, colours, models, lines characterising the world of sunglasses.

From that passion and emotions I came up with the idea of producing my own sunglass collection, something unique that doesn't simply stop to the concept of accessory to be worn, but that marks a person's face.

Thanks to my love for nature I bumped into an extremely interesting and innovative sustainable material, the Sikalindi® that comes from Apulia, Italy. It is obtained by dehydrating prickly pear paddles, a very widespread plat in my land.

This pollutant-free process, that doesn't harm the plant, creates a unique and polished material. The natural textures of the vegetable fibre turn into sunglasses, making them not only an accessory of great view impact, but also a refined design and surprisingly natural object, where the grabbing-attention grain inebriates those people who watch them.

I don't expect anything from this project, so that everything will be a surprise. What is really important to me is working with passion and having fun, while doing it.

I hope to have more sparkling ideas to create new collections with different and innovative materials.
