BILLY SIABAN
TELL US HOW SIABAN THE LABEL WAS BORN?
I had just gotten my bachelor degree in Fashion Design and Technology in 2017, and I decided after four years of studying I would take some time off, which only lasted two months before I realised that If I wanted to create a brand that I needed to start sooner rather than later. Once I completed my graduate collection in 2016, I realised for the first tine I can go from concept to create, and that there really is no limit to what I can create.
What was A challenging time in SHAPING YOUR BRAND?
Navigating the business and retail side of the business has been extremely challenging. There is no handbook on how to create a successful brand, and school does not teach you that either, it’s one of those things that you can only learn whilst you are in it and experiencing it.
What inspires and drives you to create?
I’m one of those designers who gets inspired by anything and everything, whether it’s art or something in pulp culture or even my own memories and experiences. I draw inspiration from all of those things. My passion and creativity is what drives me and keeps me going, and the support of my close friends and family. They always keep me grounded and humble.
I genuinely love what I do, which is to create and design. Despite the fashion industry being highly competitive and challenging, I get to wake up every single day and do what I love most - create. You also know you love what you do when you take a break and you start to miss it.
What are you working on right now?
Right now I’m working on my next collection, “Volume III” which will be out soon. As well as working on the next one after that as well, I’m trying to work on as many collections / concepts as I can.
What has you excited right now?
I’m really excited about my next collection, it will be the biggest one I have ever done to date and there is a lot more variety and diversity that will be shown in this collection.
What do you love to do when you're not working or when you need to recharge?
I train / workout every day. It helps to keep me focused as well as giving my brain a chance to relax and not think about a million things.
do you have ADVICE for emerging designers?
Work hard and keep going. Don’t ever give up; patience is key in this business, you are not going to be a successful brand over night.
Also trust your gut, people can keep you as much as advice as they want but at the end of the day it’s your brand and you know what is best so trust yourself!
